THE pain continues. Drew Ginn hung a
silver medal around his neck for the first time in his Olympic career
as Great Britain surged to victory in rowing's "war on the water.''
The pride of the British fleet powered to victory in the coxless fours victory the entire nation was craving for.
No
roar at this regatta - and there have been many of them - matched the
sustained din that accompanied the face as the 25,000 strong crowd tried
to lift their four over the line.
The race tactics had a surprise
twist when Great Britain, who normally trail Australia through the
first three quarters of the race, led by a metre at the 500m mark and
eventually won by three metres from an Australian crew who fought
valiantly with the United States third.
Australia, normally the
greyhounds of the race who lead and ask opposition to run them down,
never led a race which lived up to expectations as the thriller everyone
expected it to be.
