Ogun LG workers threaten strike over salaries

Workers in the 20 local governments  in Ogun State have threatened a showdown with the state government over unpaid salaries.
Already, the workers have given the state government  a fresh seven-day ultimatum to pay the salaries or risk a strike.
According to the letter signed by the state Secretary of the National Union of Local Government Employees, Mr. Bamidele Oyeniyan, the governor must within the next seven days thrash out  issues bordering on the “total shifting of the 100 per cent payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, leave bonuses, pensions and other charges  which are now causing over-delay/irregular payment of salaries of LGA workers as at when due.”
The 14-day ultimatum earlier given the Ogun State Government by the workers lapsed on Tuesday.
Our correspondent learnt  that workers in more than 11 councils are being owed salaries.
