Imoke laments inability of police to check insecurity

Liyel Imoke
Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke  has lamented the inability of the police to check insecurity in the country.
Imoke said this at an interactive session with journalists in Calabar on Saturday.
The governor said the inefficiency of the police forced the government to   deploy soldiers in troubled states.
He said, “Traditionally, the armed forces anywhere else would be in charge of external security aggression. Now the armed forces are doing internal security. The marine police’s job has been taken over by the Navy and Joint Task Force. What are we talking about? We are talking about Nigerians, not politicians.
“We are talking about the security of the citizenry. Our arguments have to be focused on the people that we govern. Even if the state police law comes to the constitution, I will be out of office before the constitution is implemented so of what benefit would it be to me as a former governor that there is state police in Cross River?”
Imoke said one of the most effective ways of tackling insecurity in Nigeria  was the establishment of state police.
