Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, on Monday denied allegations
linking him with the ownership of Orient Petroleum Resources Limited.
Obi, in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information,
Culture and Tourism, Chief Joemartins Uzodike, described the allegations
being circulated through the Short Message Service as “a malicious
piece of distorted information.”
He also described it as the handiwork of “enemies of progress,” whose
intent was to run down the governor and other prominent indigenes of
Anambra State to become relevant in the 2015 elections.
Orient Petroleum Resources Limited is the company licensed to explore
and exploit oil and gas in the Anamabra Basin by the Federal
Government.
Its facilities were inaugurated last month by President Goodluck
Jonathan, who declared Anambra the 10th oil producing state in Nigeria.
The statement said the shares of Orient were owned by Anambra citizens who invested their hard earned savings in the company.
The statement also frowned on the linkage of the name of the governor
with the defunct Orient Bank, Orient Airline and Orient Petroleum,
saying the state had long passed the stage of “such dirty policking.”
