Daniel Kelly eliminated in first round of men's under 100kg judo competition

AUSTRALIAN judo player Daniel Kelly will leave his fourth Olympic Games still searching for a win after being defeated by Artem Bloshenko in the first round of the under 100kg division.

Kelly had a quick exit from his fourth Olympic appearance at the hands of the Ukraine's Artem Bloshenko – 3kg heavier and seven years younger.
The 34-year-old from Melbourne is the current Oceania champion and has won eight senior national titles but the step up to world class was too much against the younger Ukrainian.

He was marked down by the judges for non-combativity and defensive posture in a bout that lasted just over seven minutes.
After the event,  a clearly disappointed Kelly commiserated with coach, family and friends.
Kelly followed his father into judo at seven years old and fought his first title bout at 13. He made his Olympic debut at Sydney in 2000 and has not missed a Games since.
