Bronze for Australia in day of drama in women's team sprint

AUSTRALIA has claimed bronze in the women's team sprint after Victoria Pendleton's Olympic Games have started disastrously after the British track cycling queen and teammate Jess Varnish were disqualified from the team sprint medal rounds.
Chinese riders Shuang Guo and Jinjie Gong and team staff were stunned by the punishment for an illegal changeover, meaning they took silver.
The decision was announced several minutes after they beat German world champions Miriam Welte and Kristina Vogel in the final.

Great Britain were supposed to be riding for the gold, but Victoria Pendleton and Jessica Varnish were also disqualified for an illegal changeover in their round-one heat.
China clearly beat Germany, clocking 32.619 seconds to 32.798.
The Chinese were the fastest team throughout, setting a world record of 32.422 with their first-round win.
In the men's team sprint, Sir Chris Hoy produced a golden postscript to the day.
