Australia's K4 team has won our 6th gold medal of the London Olympics

THREE Beijing veterans hell-bent on redemption and a South-African born young star yesterday delivered the nation's first kayaking gold of the London Olympics.
The men's K4 1000m crew of Tate Smith, David Smith, Murray Stewart and Jacob Clear seized total control on the waters of Eton Dorney to clinch gold ahead of Hungary and the Czech Republic.

They led from the first frantic paddle strokes of their final after a dominant semi-final victory over world champions Germany, powering away to win ahead of Hungary and the Czech Republic.
It was Australia's first team kayaking Olympic gold, and only the third kayaking gold ever behind the pair of K1 victories from Clint Robinson's in 1992 and Ken Wallace in Beijing.
Beijing had turned into a nightmare for Tate and David Smith, with their boat plagued by internal divisions given Robinson's dominant presence.
They bombed to miss the final entirely after finishing last in their semi final, while Clear had finished a lowly 13th in the K2 500 alongside Robinson in Beijing.
David Smith sobbed uncontrollably after their Beijing semi final fiasco, with the lead-in to that contest also filled with controversy after Sydney kayaker Luke Michael accused the selectors of favouring Robinson over him.
The sport's new young star Stewart, rowing in two other boats this regatta, joined the three Olympic veterans to add more grunt to a rapidly improving crew.
