NDLEA seizes N2.5 bn drugs at MMIA
Lagos - The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has intercepted 227.05kg of drugs, worth N2.5 billion at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in the last six months.
The spokesman of the agency, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju said in a statement that 63 suspected traffickers, comprising 53 men and 10 women, were arrested in connection with the seizures.
According to the statement, cannabis topped the list of seizures with 72.350kgs, followed by methamphetamine - 46.25kg; cocaine - 43.505kg; heroin - 33.15kg and ephedrine 31.8kg.
"The command also recorded two abandoned seizures within the period under review,’’ it added.
The statement explained that the two abandoned seizures included 16kg of heroin in April and 160 kg of methamphetamine in June.
