Lagos - The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and
Special Offences on Friday continued the demolition of houses blocking
drainages in the state.
The taskforce demolished houses in Maryland, Gbagada and Isolo areas of the state.
Two weeks ago, the taskforce demolished houses in Makoko, a slum in Yaba area.
The demolition of parts of the slum led to public outcry as well as the alleged killing of a community leader by a policeman.
The
taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, told journalists during the exercise
that the occupants of the affected houses were given notice before the
demolition.
He warned that henceforth, government would demolish any house built within less than 15 metres from a drainage channel.
